Sustainable tourism in Anguilla

The Caribbean is best known for its beach resorts but you will also find jungle/rainforest lodges here. For some islands, like Dominica, sustainable tourism (ecotourism) is becoming a way to preserve their islands. Eco lodges are the norm there. Some islands are heavily populated, and others are much more remote. Many of our resorts offer scuba diving in crystal clear waters. Situated on the southwest coast of Anguilla and overlooking the mountains of St. Maarten only six miles away, Cap Juluca occupies 179 acres of land and inland waters. Only 15 minutes by boat from the shops, restaurants, gambling, and international flavor of St. Maarten, Cap Juluca remains the essence of tranquility.

Vacationers to Anguilla can indulge in mountain biking and hiking along trails in the island's interior, or take a horseback ride along the beach. Birdwatchers can look for more than 100 bird species on the island. The Anguilla National Trust was established in 1993 to oversee the protection of natural resources and land, and has undertaken projects such as the restoration of beach dunes.
